A New Chapter Begins

The Zero Plastic League (ZPL) begins a new chapter – with the launching of committee roles

and the release of our website on 22 December 2023. I’m deeply appreciative of the

support from all of you who support our mission. Your support serves as our bedrock, empowering us to continue amplifing our endeavors to make a difference.

ZPL have much to celebrate as the year comes to an end. 2023 was a year of excitement. I

have been energized by the continued support across communities – including school

leaders, teachers and students, professionals, educators, and environmental departments. I

am motivated by the intertwining challenges and opportunities revolving around the need

for more environmental literacy and engagement of global citizens to build a sustainable

future.

In this blog, I am pleased to champion youth initiatives for a sustainable future. Plastic

produces greenhouse gas emissions over the course of its lifecycle, which begins with its

production. Plastic is derived from oil and natural gas, two of the main culprits behind

climate change. The global challenge of climate change requires collective effort and

innovative resolutions. It is important to instill young people with the tools and knowledge

they need to actively participate in global collaboration, take their ideas and transform

them into meaningful climate actions. ZPL aims to empower passionate youths for a

sustainable future.

As we wrap up the year and reflect on what we’ve accomplished, I am thinking about what’s

coming for environmental education advocacy in the new year. With more advisors and

members joining us, I see tremendous potential for even greater advocacy on building

networks and partnerships from which long-term climate action strategies are built.

Looking forward, we invite you to join us in shaping our collective path to address plastic

pollution. We eagerly anticipate another year of new adventures and opportunities, and

we’re excited to have you alongside with us on this odyssey.
