How ZPL Changed Me For the Better

I still vividly remember seeing the member recruitment email for the very first time. I was in eighth grade, and I had never regarded plastic pollution as such an urgent problem.

However, I was curious about the kinds of innovative technologies that could be used to alleviate the pollution problem.

Led by that curiosity, I turned in my application form, and successfully joined the Zero Plastic League. Looking back from now, I would never have expected to have absorbed so much about everything plastic pollution: its severity, its consequences, and how to ease it.

From having the very first assembly sharing on 8 th September 2022 introducing ourselves, hosting ZPL's first ever webinar with Anson, participating in interviews with young activists, preparing a sharing session for students from Sing Yin Secondary School, to having a sharing session with our very own students, organising a beach cleanup in Wu Kai Sha, presenting about plastic pollution to students of International College Hong Kong, making costumes for the Green Fashion Show in Sing Yin Secondary School, hosting the second webinar with Anson once again, and finally to proudly receive the founders medal and ZPL badge, I honestly cannot believe that ZPL gave me this many experiences, opportunities, and chances to learn.

Moreover, I am also so glad that I had Belovffy, Anson, Adrian, Nathan, David, Matthew, Isaak, Eric and Iain along for the ride. It was really the ride of my life in the last twenty months, and I have learned SO MUCH, did SO MANY things, and enjoyed the whole journey to the fullest.

No words will ever do these literally indescribable feelings justice.

Reaching high in a new year, I am so honoured to be a part of this new step for ZPL: Expanding to a full-on committee.

Seeing others like me yearning to join ZPL, wishing to save the environment, and hoping to inspire other people to do the same, I am so grateful and excited to be able to teach them and pass on the core and heart of ZPL to our newcomers as one of the Education Directors.

I cannot wait to see the smiles on their faces as they look back at themselves a year or two ago and take in the huge amount of what they've learned in the previous years, knowing that they've had the experience of a lifetime, just like I had, and am still having.
